Ensuring Your Future Options

One of the most important duties of a serious artist is to preserve their work for future use and appreciation…

At one time that meant having a photographer shoot large format film and then scan those photos to size as needed. This was an expensive and time consuming process.

Betterlight Scanning Camera System

Today we use digital cameras to capture your image. Digital is faster and more flexible than film and as we shall see, if you choose a our Betterlight Scanning Camera System, the results will far surpass what film, flat bed scanners, and other digital camera systems can accomplish.

File Size

The most common problem we run into when going to a large print. Whether that’s a full size Giclee, a lithographed poster, even a billboard- proper resolution is critical. Too low and the result is likely to end up soft or pixelated.

Clarity

The cause of a lack of Clarity is Noise. In film we call it grain, in digital we simply call it noise. There actually is a scientific term for it … Root Mean Square (RMS) Noise. As you’d presume the less noise the better, and the Betterlight Scanning Camera has noise levels less than 1/10 that of film and about 1/5 that of Conventional Professional Digital Cameras.

Density Range

Density range is the distance between the lightest resolvable highlight and the darkest resolvable shadow. The larger the range the more likely you will pick up detail in those areas.

Color Accuracy

There are a number of factors contributing to the Betterlight’s astounding Color Accuracy. One is an extra large color Gamut (the total number of recordable colors), another is the fact that, unlike even the best traditional digital cameras, it collects Red Green and Blue data from every location on the image. The other cameras must extrapolate the additional information, thereby degrading it somewhat. (Learn More Here!) Now for many applications, that’s acceptable, but when the best is desired the Betterlight is required!

It’s difficult to illustrate color accuracy. The difference needs to be experienced to be understood, and of course much of the final quality is due to the expertise of the cameraman. All the features of the camera system already mentioned teamed with the years of experience of the people running it make an unparalleled combination.
